Membership

Currently the HRSA has 106 active members from Hungary and 110 registered members from neighbouring countries (at the end of 2016 the number of active members from Hungary were 191). HRSA operates 13 regional sections: in all the 7 regions of Hungary and in 6 regions abroad where Hungarian speaking regional specialists are working. The half of sections operates on a regular basis.

Past events

The HRSA organized the 10th Conference of Young Regionalists on June 16, in co-operation with Széchenyi István University and Institute for Regional Studies of HAS. The jubilee conference in Győr is dedicated to Academic Enyedi György (1930–2012).

On September 15-16, 2016 the 14th Annual Conference of the HRSA was held in Partium Christian University, Oradea (Romania) with the focus on The Role of Small and Medium Sized Cities in Regional Development. 135 participants attended the conference, among others 10 experts from abroad and 45 PhD students. On the first day two plenary sessions were organized: one in Hungarian and one in English, with international speakers: Manfred Kühn (Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space) and Nataša Pichler-Milanović (University of Ljubljana). The second day of the conference 12 parallel sessions (one in English) hosted 90 presentations with the participation of several invited speakers. The traditional 'Young Regional Scientist' prize and 'Pro Regional Science Award' were delivered.

Upcoming events

The HRSA is going to hold its 15th Annual Conference in October 19-20, 2017 in Mosonmagyaróvár, with the focus on the dualities of regional science and studies. The international keynote speakers will be Prof. Grzegorz Gorzelak (University of Warsaw), Prof. Gunther Maier (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien), Prof. Michael Steiner (Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz). On the second day of the conference 13 parallel sessions will be organized, one session in English (Emerging new periphery: Central and Eastern European regions in the multi-speed EU). Presentations of 20 minutes are welcomed. Registration is free of charge for the speakers from Central and Eastern Europe.

HRSA will be a co-organizer of 6th Central European Conference in Regional Science in September 20–22, 2017 in Banska Bystrica in co-operation with 4 Slovakian partners.

HRSA will be a co-organizer of 5th Central European PhD Workshop on Regional Economics in September 28–29, 2017 in Legénd (Hungary) in co-operation with Hungarian universities.

Following previous activities, HRSA continues to organize the Regional Science Evenings (every second month), and the Glokál Seminar (3-4 events per semesters).
